$5 Million Homeland Security Grants Topic of February 24 Event: The Michigan Homeland Security Consortium, an organization representing the homeland security and defense industry invites company representatives to its next Lunch & Learn on Thursday, Feb. 24, to be held at Automation Alley in Troy. The event will features representative of Macomb Community College explaining the focus of their grants and seeking input from Southeast Michigan companies involved in the homeland security and defense sectors. Topics will include growth of the industry and the skill sets needed by companies hiring employees. Macomb Community College received $5 million in grants to support the growth and future development of the defense and homeland security industry. These grants task the college with providing technical training to area residents to prepare them for jobs within these growing sectors. "These grants allow displaced and veteran workers to benefit from training that will prepare them for employment in the defense and homeland security industry sectors", said Jennifer Tisdale, Project Specialist for the Macomb Regional Procurement and Technical Assistance Center (PTAC). "This is a great opportunity for businesses in the SE Michigan community that are involved or considering the homeland security or defense sectors to attend and learn about the opportunity to their company." The event runs from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Automation Alley, 2675 Bellingham in Troy. The cost is $20 for MHSC and Automation Alley members and $40 for others. Registration is required.
