Grand Valley Sets Supply Chain Confab: Grand Valley State University will host the 10th Annual Midwest Supply Chain Management Conference, titled "Working together to drive business value," on March 14 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The venue is Grand Valley's Eberhard Center in downtown Grand Rapids, 301 W. Fulton St. Registration is $225 by Feb. 20, $250 thereafter, $195 a person for three or more people from the same company, and $35 for students. (Students must be enrolled full time at a university. The Midwest Supply Chain Management Conference is a comprehensive supply chain management education and networking event. SAE Sets State of the Industry Event: SAE Detroit will host a State of the Industry Event Thursday, Feb. 21 at the San Marino Club, 1685 E. Big Beaver Road in Troy. The event begins with a social hour at 5:30, dinner at 6:30 and a panel discussion and Q&A from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Don't miss this opportunity to hear from prominent industry experts on the current state of the automotive industry. Speakers include Dave Andrea, senior vice president for industry analysis and economics at OESA; Eric Fedewa, director for global powertrain and components forecasts at IHS Automotive; and Jason Stein, associate publisher and editor of Automotive News. Automation Alley, Clayton & McKervey Set Event On Doing Business In Mexico: Please join us Tuesday, March 5 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. to learn  about Automation Alley's trade mission trip to Mexico and how the State of Michigan may be able to reimburse you for half of the trip cost with STEP (State Trade Export Promotion) funding. Representatives from Automation Alley and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation will be here to provide details on the trip and how to apply for STEP funding. The trade mission trip will run May 5 - 13, and will include visits to Mexico City, Monterrey, and Saltillo. Taubman Institute Kicks Off New Series Of Public Lectures: The Taubman Institute at the University of Michigan Health System is kicking off a new series of public lectures Wednesday, Feb. 20 with a presentation by Dr. Max Wicha, Taubman Institute Senior Scholar and the founding director of the UM Health System's Comprehensive Cancer Center. As leader of the team that first discovered cancer stem cells in a human solid tumor, Dr. Wicha is a world-renowned expert in the potential of treating virtually any cancer type by targeting these early tumor cells. His lecture, "Cancer stem cells: A new frontier in cancer research," will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Kahn Auditorium of the A. Alfred Taubman Biomedical Science Research Building at the University of Michigan. It will include a question and answer session with Dr. Wicha. There is no admission charge, and the event is open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
