SBA American Supplier Initiative Coming To Detroit Dec. 10: This Tuesday, the U.S. Small Business Administration will host "Link Detroit: A Small Business Matching Summit" at Wayne State University in Detroit. as part of its American Supplier Initiative, a federal government-wide initiative designed to increase government and commercial supply chain opportunities for small firms. The event will include introductory remarks at 1 p.m. by SBA Acting Administrator Jeanne Hulit and Don Graves, federal coordinator for Detroit. After remarks and a plenary panel, the afternoon will be dedicated to matchmaking that will connect hundreds of small businesses with more than 30 federal agencies and leading corporations that are looking for small suppliers. For small firms, being a supplier to a large business provides tremendous opportunities. Small businesses who are suppliers to large corporations reported revenue growth of more than 250 percent and employment increased by more than 150 percent on average. As a part of the American Supplier Initiative, SBA has been holding supply chain events in collaboration with federal agencies and private companies throughout the country to provide the tools and resources needed for small businesses to become effective suppliers. The event will connect Detroit area entrepreneurs and small businesses with millions of dollars of new business opportunities from across the country to help revitalize the Detroit area's small business economy and is part of the Obama Administration's long-term commitment to partnering with local leaders to support the economic revitalization of Detroit, an iconic American city.
