KEDA Sponsors Safety, Health Seminar: The Keweenaw Economic Development Alliance is partnering with the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration to offer a three-day health and safety seminar General Industry Fundamentals of Safety and Health from Tuesday, Sept. 14 through Thursday, Sept. 16 in Houghton. The seminar is designed for managers, employees and business owners who want to learn about proper techniques for protecting their employees' safety and health at work. The seminar will discuss accident investigation, MIOSHA inspections and citations, elements of a health and safety program, ergonomics, hazard recognition, machine guarding, respiratory and hearing protection and other issues. The seminar will run each day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will be held in the community room of the Lakeshore Center building (former UPPCO headquarters building) located on the City of Houghton waterfront. The $210 cost of the seminar includes lunch and course materials. Partial scholarships may be available to participants. Payment is due upon registration. The registration deadline is Sept. 1. Seating is limited and early registration is recommended. Participants will receive MIOSHA Training Institute certification through Macomb Community College for taking the course. The certification program offers participants an opportunity to be recognized for their educational efforts and increase health and safety technical expertise.
