Escapee Arrested In Detroit
Detroit police have captured a prison inmate who escaped from a Mississippi jail more than a month ago.
Following an anonymous tip, officers with the Northeastern District's Special Operations team arrested William Jackson at a home on Charest Street where he had been hiding.
Jackson ecsaped from the Clarke County Jail on July 8th. Reports say Jackson escaped through a vent in his Mississippi jail cell and climbed over a 12 foot fence topped with razor wire.
He was convicted on drug charges and sentenced to 15 years in jail.
Jackson is awaiting extradition.
"This apprehension demonstrates the dedication and determination our officers have when serving the citizen of Detroit and assisting another law enforcement agency," said Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee in a statement. "I am proud of these officers for their hard work and going beyond the call of duty."
