Encouraging News On Jobs, Local Economy
DETROIT (WWJ) - Some encouraging news on the local economy.
According to the latest Manpower Employment Outlook Survey, metro Detroit employers expect to hire at a steady pace during the second quarter of this year.
The survey found that between April and June, 15% of the companies interviewed plan to hire more employees, while 8% expect to cut staff. Another 73% expect to maintain their current staff levels and 4% are not certain of their hiring plans. This translates to a Net Employment Outlook of 7%.
"Employers are slightly more confident about hiring plans for the second quarter of 2011 compared to Quarter 1 when the Net Employment Outlook was 5%," said Manpower spokesperson Eric Jones. "Employers foresee stable staffing plans compared with one year ago."
For the coming quarter, Manpower found that job prospects appear best in Construction, Non-Durable Goods Manufacturing, Transportation & Utilities, Information, Education & Health Services, Leisure & Hospitality and other services.
Employers in Financial Activities and Government plan to reduce staffing levels, while Durable Goods Manufacturing, Wholesale & Retail Trade and Professional & Business Services employers report no change in hiring sentiment.
More than 18,000 employers were surveyed across the United States.
