Enbridge To Resume Oil Flow Through Damaged Pipe
Enbridge Inc. says it will resume the flow of oil Monday morning through a pipeline that ruptured in July, spilling 820,000 gallons of crude into southern Michigan waterways.
CEO Patrick Daniel said pressure will be reduced by 20 percent in the line, which runs from Griffith, Ind., to Sarnia, Ontario.
Enbridge's announcement Thursday came after the federal Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration approved the Canadian company's restart plan. The agency said the gradual restart would be closely watched.
Daniel also said Enbridge will meet a Monday deadline set by the Environmental Protection Agency for finishing most cleanup along the Kalamazoo River and Talmadge Creek.
He said a 3,800-foot pipeline segment that runs beneath the St. Clair River will be replaced.
