Employee Fatally Shot In Broad Daylight At Cash Advance In Taylor
TAYLOR (WWJ) - Taylor police are investigating the shooting death of an employee at Advanced America Cash Advance on Telegraph Road, near I-94.
Police Chief Mary Sclabassi said a hold-up alarm went off around noon Tuesday and when police arrived, they found the body of Chelsea Ann Small.
"Officers made the scene and found a 30-year-old female victim on the floor, succumbed from injuries from apparent gun-shot wounds," she said.
Sclabassi said Small had been shot multiple times in what may have been a botched robbery. The suspect, who made off with a small amount of cash, was gone by the time police arrived.
"We're investigating a homicide that may have been the result of a robbery gone bad here at this check cashing establishment," she said.
Police believe Small, who had only worked at the store for a few months, was the only employee working at the time. The store has a security entrance that customers have to buzzed-in through, but police aren't sure if Small knew her killer.
Security cameras show a white male suspect inside the store, but Sclabassi said the tape doesn't show enough for them to give a good description of the suspect.
Other details surrounding the incident are fairly limited and police are hoping the public can help them tie up some loose ends.
"We would ask the public if they're aware of who may have been involved in this horrible crime to please call the Taylor police or Crime Stoppers," Sclabassi said.
Small, a mother of two, lived in Gibraltar. She was a 2002 graduate of Carlson High School.
