Emmy Nominations Revealed: 'Downton Abbey,' 'Mad Men,' Lead
Detroit's many fans of sleeper PBS hit "Downton Abbey" had reason to celebrate Thursday morning when Emmy Award nominations were read live by host Jimmy Kimmel.
The miniseries featuring the ins and outs of upstairs and downstairs life in early 20th Century Great Britain earned 16 nods. Also earning 16 nominations was miniseries "Hatfields & McCoys;" HBO's "Hemingway & Gellhorn" earned 15.
The miniseries "American Horror story," a nightmare saga about a haunted house, received 17 awards.
On network TV, period drama "Mad Men," earned a leading 17 Emmy nominations -- which would set a new win record if it collects all those statutes. "Modern Family" led the sitcom front with 14 nods.
HBO's "Girls," got a best comedy nod, as did CBS' "Big Bang Theory," HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm," NBC's "30 Rock," and HBO's Julia Louis-Dreyfus vehicle "Veep."
But the loudest applause during the nomination announcements came when Betty White was announced as a reality show nominee for her "Betty White's Off Their Rockers."
"Only old people get up this early I guess," Kimmel joked.
