Elephant Sculpture At Marygrove

A life-size sculpture of an elephant made of galvanized steel and recycled truck tires is paying a visit to Detroit.

The sculpture Nomkhubulwane by South African artist Andries Botha was expected to arrive at the Marygrove College campus for a week starting Friday before moving to a second Detroit location Oct. 20.

The display runs until Nov. 1. Detroit-based utility DTE Energy Co. is helping to support the project.

Organizers say Nomkhubulwane is one of 17 elephants on display around the world by the Human Elephant Foundation.
