Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Installed In Mt. Clemens
MOUNT CLEMENS (WWJ) - DTE Energy has gifted a pair of electric and hybrid car charging stations to Macomb County. The two stations, now in the Macomb County Administration Building parking lot, are valued at about $20,000 each.
DTE's Ryan Chriss told WWJ Newsradio 950 he expects to see more of these being added around the county.
"Absolutely. With a grant from the DOE [Department of Energy] and our cooperation and partnership with GM and other folks like [Macomb County Exec.] Mark Hackel, throughout this service territory, we'll be seeing them pop up all over the place," said Chriss.
After pulling up in a Chevy Volt and plugging it in, Hackel applauded DTE for the gift.
"We gotta thank DTE for this opportunity ... they paid for the expenditures to have these here," said Hackel.
"We're trying to promote this. I think it's important, not just to this country but in particular to Macomb County, where a lot of the advancements in battery technology is being done ... by the auto industry," he said.
Currently in Macomb County there are already similar charging stations in place at Partridge Creek Mall. The stations are designed to provide a quick charge, meaning in four hours your car can be completely charged as long as it already had some power left in it.
