Voters are deciding mayoral primaries in several other cities as well, including Pontiac, Romulus, Dearborn, Taylor, Hamtramck, River Rouge and Ecorse.

Tuesday's election isn't just about voting for city leaders -- there's also a number of local issues voters will be deciding.

In Oakland County, voters in Farmington will have an extra tax bite at stake. Residents are being asked to approve a $200 million plan for remodeling school buildings, acquiring new technology and upgrading fields and playgrounds. The plan calls for a new secure entry lobby to restrict access to the schools, along with other safety measures. Officials estimate the plan will cost residents an extra $7 to $9 per month.

Other cities considering similar school bond proposals include Lake Orion and South Redford.

In Macomb County, St. Clair Shores is asking for a $2.6 million tax increase for police and fire.

Likewise, Harrison Township is asking for a 1.5 mill tax increase to save the jobs of three firefighters, and another increase to build a library.

Residents in Allen Park are also voting on a millage proposals for police and fire services that are expected to cost the average homeowner an extra 74 cents a day. Officials say if the measures don't pass, 15 people from the fire department will be laid off, along with six people from the police department.
