Elderly Indiana Man Indicted In Michigan Drug Bust
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - An 87-year-old Indiana man has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Detroit, three weeks after he was stopped with a load of cocaine in his pickup truck.
The indictment replaces a criminal complaint that was filed after Leo Sharp's arrest in Washtenaw County, west of Detroit, on Oct. 21. Police say he was stopped on I-94 in Washtenaw County for improper lane use, when they discovered over one hundred brick-shaped objects which tested positive for cocaine. The total weight was 228 pounds.
Sharp was indicted Tuesday. He's expected to be arraigned on the new drug charge Monday. A message seeking comment was left for his attorney.
When he was in court last month, Sharp said he was forced at gunpoint to deliver the cocaine. He didn't elaborate. Sharp lives in the Michigan City, Ind., area and says he grows lilies.
