Eight Small Companies Awarded Grants For Research Partnerships with Michigan Universities
LANSING (WWJ) -- The Michigan Corporate Relations Network Friday announced eight Small Company Innovation Program grant awards that will enable research partnerships between small Michigan businesses and MCRN universities.
SCIP provides one-to-one matching funds to support collaborative research projects between small and mid-sized Michigan-based companies and MCRN universities.
By awarding matching funds, SCIP helps businesses stretch their budgets for critical, early-stage developments that will move them closer to commercialization.
As leaders in conducting more than $1.8 billion of research (99 percent of the academic research done in Michigan in 2009), MCRN universities have a wealth of resources to offer Michigan businesses. SCIP is specifically designed to provide smaller companies an opportunity to access resources that may not otherwise be affordable.
Through a competitive process, the following projects were selected for funding as part of the latest round of SCIP grant awards:
• Advanced Technologies of Michigan Inc. and the University of Michigan-Dearborn
• Climate Technologies Corp. and Wayne State University
• Coy Laboratory Products Inc. and the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor
• NextCat and Wayne State University
• SAKOR Technologies Inc. and Michigan State University
• Somino Global L3C and the University of Michigan-Dearborn
• Stellar Fuels LLC and Wayne State University
• Tetra Discovery Partners LLC and Western Michigan University

The Michigan Corporate Relations Network is collaboration among six public universities working to connect businesses with university resources that will help to drive innovation and commercialization. MCRN consists of Wayne State University, the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Michigan Technological University, University of Michigan-Dearborn, Western Michigan University, and the University Research Corridor. MCRN is supported by funding from the Michigan Economic Development Corp.
