Effort To Revive Kronk Gym In Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - A move is underway to revive the famous Kronk Gym in Detroit. WWJ's Rob Sanford said the well-known boxing trainer Emanuel Steward is behind the plan.
Kronk Gym produced champions like Thomas "The Hitman" Hearns and Oscar De La Hoya.
The establishment has been in limbo after it was vandalized to the point it could not be used anymore.
Now in an effort to revive the historic gym, Emanuel Steward has come up with a project called Kronk Village. It would be built on land that would be sold by the City of Detroit.
Besides the gym and recreation center, plans call for eventually building a museum, housing unit and even a restaurant.
A fundraising campaign will likely get underway this summer.
