Ecorse Gas Station Charging Drivers $4.49 A Gallon
ECORSE, Mich. (WWJ) - A local gas station/restaurant is sending mixed messages as it tries to draw in customers for a grand opening. There's a string of banners along the building's canopy that reads "Grand Opening," but that's a pretty unorthodox strategy considering that on the marquee, self serve regular is priced at $4.49 a gallon.
With the price of gas that high, drivers shouldn't have any trouble finding gas at the station, a BP located on West Jefferson near Visger Road.
Ecorse resident Sam Foley says the station's gas has been priced at $4.49 a gallon since Sunday morning, even though other gas stations are 40 to 50 cents a gallon cheaper.
"I thought it was a typo, cause that was the first question I asked 'em," Foley told Dewey. "I said, is that a typo cause last night I got some gas in my mom's Fusion; it was $3.87, and I got that from a Clark on Allen Road. And he said that was the price when he came in to work, so I didn't get gas, needless to say."
Judging by the price at the pump, the gas station/restaurant wasn't using the banners as a loss leader.
