Eastland Center Target Evacuated Due To Bomb Threat
HARPER WOODS (WWJ) - The Target store at Eastland Center mall in Harper Woods was evacuated Thursday due to a bomb scare.
Harper Woods police say the store, at 18000 Vernier Rd., was immediately closed after the threat came in, at around 2:45 p.m.
Eastland Center remained open, and Public Safety Director Chief James Burke said their security staff is working closely with officers.
Police brought in K-9 bomb detecting dogs to sweep the building as a precaution.
"The nature of the threat was non-specific and at this time we do not have any other credible information to substantiate the threat," Burke said, in an advisory. "We anticipate the Target Store will reopen once the all clear has been given."
Harper Woods High School and Chandler Park Academy were releasing students at the time of the threat and the administrations of both schools were advised of the threat. Students were allowed to leave the school buildings but urged to stay away from Eastland Center until the situation was resolved.
An employee answering the phone at Target said she believed the store would remain closed for the evening.
No injuries were reported.
