Dye-Stained Bills At Strip Club Lead To Bank Robbery Arrest
SOUTHFIELD (WWJ/AP) - An Oakland County man has been arrested after money stolen in a bank robbery and covered in red dye was used at a southwest Michigan strip club.
Southfield police say 37-year-old Todd Kettler of Rochester was arraigned Tuesday on armed robbery and felony firearm charges in connection with an Oct. 4 bank holdup.
Kettler was arrested Sunday after the manager of Angels Gentlemen's Club in Kalamazoo Township called police because a man was passing out dye-covered cash.
Police interviewed Kettler and linked him to an armed robbery that occured at Charter One Bank, near the corner of 10 Mile and Telegraph, in Southfield just days earlier.
The strip club and the bank are about 130 miles apart.
According to police, Kettler walked into the bank around 1 p.m. and approached a teller. Witnesses told police Kettler took a handgun out of his backpack and said "give me all your money." The teller handed him an undisclosed about of cash, which he placed in his backpack and fled the building. Police say a red dye pack went off in the parking lot as Kettler was leaving.
Dye packs are used by banks to track down money taken during robberies. The packs explode, spewing dye on the cash and suspect.
Kettler is being held on a $1 million bond. A preliminary examination conference is scheduled for Oct. 15 in Southfield's 46th District Court.
