Dundee Under Water, Post Office Closed
DUNDEE (WWJ) - Flooding continues to be a problem in parts of Southeast Michigan as a result of Tuesday's heavy rains. In Dundee, water from the River Raisin is up to the windows at the post office and M-50 is closed in the city.
WWJ Newsradio 950 spoke with Dundee City Manager Julius Suchy.
"We're trying to get sand bags out to people ... in the vicintiy to the M-50 bridge, so that they're able to maybe deter the water a little bit from getting into their basements or getting into their houses," Suchy said.
The Dundee Post office has relocated P.O. Box operations to the Ida Post office (2888 Lewis Ave.) until the flooding recedes. P.O. Box cusomers may pick up their mail 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. - 5 p.m..
Carriers will sort and deliver mail out of the Monroe Post office, where Dundee postal customers can pick up their packages as well. Home delivery is still scheduled normally.
Water damage is also reported in six buildings and a laundromat on Franklin Street. The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the River Raisin at Dundee "until further notice."
