DTM's Top 5 Worst Plays In Sports History

As we all catch our breath from what was one of the best, most insane and jaw dropping Super Bowls ever, the play that will be talked about forever is one that not only cost the Seahawks a championship, but also unnecessarily stopped a possible run to become one of the greatest teams in history dead in its tracks.
At the bitter end of one of the best title games of all time, one of the most boneheaded, inexplicable and flat-out stupidest plays in sports history was the difference.
Here are my top five worst plays in sports history. What are yours?

5. "Own Goal Takes Own Life" - No human being should ever lose their life at the hands of another human, to begin with in my humble opinion, even if they are truly a bad apple. With that said, it is even more insane to lose it because of something to do with sports, but that is exactly what happened after Colombian soccer legend Andres Escobar scored a goal against his own Columbia National team in the '94 FIFA World Cup, only to allegedly be killed by another Escobar, of no relation in drug kingpin Pablo, because of huge losses on the game by several drug lords.
4. "Chris Webber-NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" - There is no way to know for sure that if C-Webb doesn't call the most boneheaded timeout in sports history, that the Wolverines go on to beat UNC and win a National Title. What we do know is there is no doubt it cost the Fab Five any chance at winning one.
3. "Grady Little's Brain Goes to Neptune"- The Red Sox make this list twice as the previously star-crossed franchise had two of the most unfortunate situations in MLB history as far as costing a team a true chance at become a World Champion. The Red Sox skipper leaving Pedro Martinez too long in Game 7 of the 2003 ALCS, after it was obvious he had as much gas as an electric car does, was the Red Sox "Buckner" moment of the new Millennium, which leads us to..............
2. "Bill Buckner Becomes Enemy of the State and Loses a World Series for the Red Sox"- It had only been since the dawn of the automobile since the last time the Sox tasted a World Series title and the Curse of the Bambino seemed all but broken in the '86 Series in Game 6 against the Mets. Then in the bottom of the 10th, the normally sure handed Buckner made an error on a Mookie Wilson dribbler that a little leaguer would struggle to make even if they tried.
One of the biggest games in Red Sox history ended with a walkoff and set up a Game 7 that would bring New York a World Title and broke Boston fans hearts for almost 20 years. Lucky for Sox fans though they would go on to break the curse in a major way, winning three titles in the 2000's, but this one still makes Boston fans melt in their tracks and have recurring nightmares every time they see it.
1. "Are.....You.......Freaking.....Kidding....Me" - As time was running out in one of the best Super Bowl's of all time, the Patriots mounted an epic comeback after being down by 10 to the Seahawks in the fourth quarter. With New England looking as bewildered as Lindsay Lohan would at the Actors Studio, Seattle came all the way down the field with under 30 seconds to go, including one of the greatest catches in the history of the NFL by Jermaine Kearse.
Then, instead of going to Marshawn Lynch -- who was running like a Bull in Pamplona on the goal line with three cracks at the endzone and a back-to-back championship -- the absolute, mostly incredulous and simply moronic play in sports history was called by "former" Hawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevel, to empty the backfield and throw a pass that was picked off, giving the Patriots their fourth title in the Brady-Belichick Era.
Instead of talking about the Seahawks as one of the greatest teams of all time, we are talking about if Tom and Darth Hoodie are the greatest of all-time because of a play call that changed NFL history forever......
All I can say is ....OH...MY...GOD!! Thousands of Seahawks fans are lighting up legal joints by the Space Needle, but not for the reason they should be..... Richard Sherman's reaction on the sideline said it all!
