DTE Continues To Work To Restore Power To Over 50,000 Customers Following Winter Storm
DETROIT (WWJ) -- DTE has restored power to more than 10, 000 of 50,000 customers who lost power after a weekend storm that left thousands without lights and warmth for DTE Energy customers in Metro Detroit.
Customers were affected mostly in the western Wayne County and Ann Arbor areas. [RADAR]
Saturday night about 3,000 homes and businesses were without power near Nine Mile and Drake in Farmington Hills. About 2,300 homes are out near Six Mile and Middlebelt in Livonia.
Another 1,100 were without power near Schoenherr and Eight Mile on Detroit's northeast side.
DTE spokesperson Stephanie Beres said that the very sudden snowfall is to blame for the majority of the outages.
"Metro Detroit has experienced its first big winter storm of the year, coming a little early in the year," Beres said. "With many leaves still on the trees it's caused many power outages scattered across the Metro Detroit area."
Power should be restored by later Saturday night or Sunday morning.
"We're working to get some of the harder hit areas on by the early morning hours," Beres said.
