DTE Energy Worker Shot While Disconnecting Service In Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - A DTE Energy employee was shot with a pellet gun while disconnecting electrical service to a home Wednesday in Detroit.
Utility spokeswoman Vanessa Waters said it happened at around 1:30 p.m. in the area of Highland and Woodrow Wilson, just west of the Lodge Freeway, on the city's west side.
She told WWJ Newsradio 950 an illegal hookup was involved.
"A contract lineman, who was disconnecting service to make the scene safe after repeated energy thefts, had apparently been shot by a BB gun from within the house," Waters said.
DTE director of security Michael Lynch told the Detroit News the worker, who was shot in the arm, was "shook up" but was expected to be fine.
The weapon was confiscated and a suspect was taken into custody, according to reports.
No names have been released.
