DTE: 25,000 Customers Without Power Following Winter Storm
DETROIT (WWJ) -- A winter storm that passed over metro Detroit Monday left more than 25,000 DTE Energy customers without power. The outages are scattered, but it appears the Ann Arbor area was hardest hit.
DTE Energy crews are working to restore power to about 5,000 customers in Detroit, about 1,000 in Grosse Pointe Farms, another 1,000 in St. Clair Shores, and about 500 in Grosse Pointe Park. Others in smaller blackouts scattered across western Wayne County -- the largest being about 2,000 in Sumter Township.
DTE Energy spokeswoman Vanessa Waters says the high winds were a big problem.
"Just the wind gust knocked down tree limbs, which knocked down our power lines," Waters said. "That caused some 25,000 customers to be without power."
Waters said that power should be restored to most customers by Tuesday evening.
In western Michigan, about 12,000 customers of Consumers Energy were without power.
