DSO Talks Break Down

The first formal talks in two months involving striking members of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and DSO management have ended with no agreement. The two sides met with a federal mediator for several hours Wednesday. Both sides issued releases, with management saying it increased its total compensation package by one-million-dollars to 34-million-dollars during the three year contract. The musicians say they countered with 38-million-dollars, which is million-dollar decrease from their previous proposal. Musicians have been on the picket line since October 4th, and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra has canceled concerts through the end of November.
