DSO Facing $8.8M Deficit Amid Strike

More woes for the DSO – the Detroit Symphony Orchestra says it has finished the fiscal year $8.8 million in the red.

At the annual meeting the DSO discussed  its budget as well as the musicians' strike.

Hayden McKay spokesman for the musicians union said that he and the other striking musicians understand the problem.

"We recognize that they've lost quite a bit of money," Mckay said. "That's why we're coming forward with proposal for further pay cuts. We said we would go further in order to help the Orchestra get through a difficult period. We just don't want to go so deep that we really harm the quality of the orchestra."

The orchestra's musicians have been on strike since October 4. Stay with WWJ for the latest developments.
