DSO Contract Talks End Without Agreement
Eleventh-hour talks between Detroit Symphony Orchestra's management and musicians have failed to reach a contract agreement amid a budget battle. Friday's four-hour meeting included federal and state mediators but ended with no future meetings scheduled.
DSO President Anne Parsons tells the Detroit Free Press management is implementing an offer that includes base pay cuts for orchestra veterans of about 30 percent, from $104,650 to $70,200 in the first year.
Musicians had offered a 22 percent reduction in the first year to $82,000.
The musicians' union has voted to reject management proposals and authorize a strike to try to avoid steep pay cuts. The orchestra has expressed disappointment that musicians rejected proposals.
The season starts in October.
