DSO Bowfire Concert Cancelled
Another Detroit Symphony Orchestra concert has been cancelled because of a strike by musicians.
The holiday "Bowfire" concert scheduled for Sunday at 3 p.m. at Orchestra Hall was cancelled around noon because of picketing by the union representing the musicians.
The concert had been scheduled since last Spring. Striking musicians will be playing at St. Anne Catholic Church in Warren Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m.
"We regret to inform you that the DSO musicians and their local union have pressured our Bowfire artists into canceling their Detroit appearance," a DSO message to patrons said. "Sadly, the striking DSO players will deprive Detroit families from their long-planned holiday entertainment -- a holiday concert that was on sale to Detroit music-lovers for months before the strike began."
The Detroit Symphony Orchestra says people with tickets can exchange them for a future DSO or Orchestra Hall concert, request a rain check to redeem later, or donate the value of your tickets to the DSO. Those who want a refund should call the DSO box office at (313) 576-5111.
The musicians' strike began in early September. The DSO presented a new offer to union leaders last Saturday. No formal talks are planned.
