Drunk Driving Crackdown Ahead Of Holiday
PONTIAC (WWJ) - Local police and sheriff's officials will be out in full force this holiday weekend, keeping an eye out for drunk drivers.
Authorities say Thanksgiving Eve right up there with New Years Eve and St. Patrick's Day for alcohol-related crashes, and, ahead of the holiday weekend, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard is reminding Michiganders not to drink and drive.
"We will have a lot of extra people on the road," Bouchard told WWJ's Florence Walton. "We're gonna have our alcohol enforcement team out, our traffic enforcement secondary roads ... We're going to have a lot of people out to make sure that it's a great night, a festive night, but a safe night."
"We're going to be out in force looking for people who are driving and drinking, mixing it up, because not only is it dangerous to them, we've had some very bad, bad tragedies as a result of other people ... whole families in a car headed off to spend Thanksgiving with loved ones who don't get there," he said.
Sheriff Bouchard is urging people who suspect that someone is driving drunk to take the time to report it.
