Drunk Driving Arraignment Waived For Lawmaker
EAST LANSING (WWJ/AP) - An attorney for state Representative Bob Genetski has waived the lawmaker's arraignment on a drunken driving charge.
Ingham County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Lisa McCormick said a court date hasn't been set for Genetski, a Republican from Saugatuck in southwestern Michigan.
He was ticketed Jan. 19 in East Lansing. McCormick said Genetski refused to take a Breathalyzer test at the scene and was arrested. A blood alcohol test later was taken, although the results were not released. Michigan's legal limit is 0.08 percent.
Genetski was also given a warning about excessive speed and driving on an expired license plate.
Genetski has said he refused the Breathalyzer test because he believes he passed a field sobriety test. He calls the experience "humbling."
Defense attorney Mike Nichols said Genetski "still believes he was safe and sober."
A statement released Monday said Genetski was on his way to a motel after leaving the Capitol area late Wednesday night when he was pulled over by a Michigan State University Police officer. The statement says Genetski "blew a .066 on a Breathalyzer test at 4 a.m., was released from the Ingham County Jail at 8 a.m. Thursday."
