Drunk Driver Arrested After Passenger Cussed At Police
WATERFORD TOWNSHIP (WWJ/AP) - His buddy got him busted.
A Waterford man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after a passenger in his vehicle screamed obscenities out the window as they drove past police.
Waterford Township police Sgt. Chester Bartle told the Detroit Free Press "we got a drunk driver off the streets because a passenger decided to yell at the cops."
Police say officers were conducting a traffic stop early Saturday when Benjamin Jonas drove past, and his passenger, 34-year-old Waterford man, cussed loudly out the window.
Officers stopped Jonas' car several blocks away and was taken into custody for drunken driving.
Jonas, also 34 years old, was arraigned Saturday before Magistrate Dudley on one count of operating under the influence of alcohol (3rd offense – felony) and given a $2,500, 10-percent bond.
He's being housed in the Oakland County jail.
In a statement, Waterford Police Chief Dan McCaw said the passenger initially denied it, but later admitted to shouting at officers. He received a disorderly conduct citation and was given up to 10 days to voluntarily appear in court for his arraignment.
The passenger's name was not released.
