Driver Killed In Fiery Monroe County Crash

BERLIN TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - One person is dead after a car overturned and burst into flames in Monroe County.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, it happened just after 12 a.m. Wednesday on Newport Road, west of I-75 in Berlin Township.

Officials said the driver of a blue 2003 Ford Mustang GT crashed while trying to navigate a curve in the road. The car went off the road, struck a cement culvert, flipped over in a grassy area, and then caught fire.

Sheriff's officials said the driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene.

No one else was hurt.

The victim's identity was not immediately released as an investigation continues.
