Driver Killed After Car Plunges Into Lake
PONTIAC (WWJ) - Police say a 32-year-old Pontiac man was killed after his car plunged into a lake in Oakland County.
Sgt. Brian Lippard said the incident unfolded around 2:25 p.m. Friday at Terry Lake, located between Baldwin Road and Cesar Chavez Avenue in Pontiac.
"The vehicle struck a curb and proceeded through a chain-link fence, continued through trees and landed in the Lake," Lippard told WWJ's Kathryn Larson.
Lippard said a dive team was brought in to locate the vehicle, which was removed from the lake around 8 p.m.
"The vehicle was in about 15 feet of water, approximately 60 feet from the shore," he said. "When the vehicle was towed to land, the body of the driver was located inside."
Lippard said they have identified the man, although his name is currently being withheld. The Oakland County Medical Examiner's Office is expected to perform an autopsy Saturday to determine the man's cause of death.
Lippard said alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
No other injuries were reported.
