DPS Unions Seek Injunction On Contract Changes
DETROIT (WWJ) - A hearing by a federal judge Thursday will affect the paychecks of thousands of Detroit Public School employees. Three unions representing Detroit Public School employees including teachers are seeking an injunction to stop a ten percent pay cut and increases in health premiums.
Those workers say the changes ordered by emergency manager Roy Roberts violate existing contracts and are illegal. This will be the first test of the new law that gives Roberts and other financial managers across the state broad powers.
District officials say the school system will be severely harmed if the actions are reversed.
