DPS Sending Parents Survey To Rate Their Concerns Regarding School Issues
DETROIT (WWJ) - What are the top concerns among parents in the Detroit Public Schools?
That's what the district is hoping to find out with a new survey being distributed to more than 30,000 families.
DPS Spokesman Steve Wasko says they've looked at the first 100 surveys where parents ranked their big issues on a scale of one to five.
"The area ... for example that was the most challenging with the score of about three the others were in the four's were the safety of the walk, to and from school. The safe routes to school ... an issue continues to be paramount - it goes beyond our sole jurisdiction - but one in which we are working with a lot of agencies on," said Wasko.
He says this call has a positive twist because parents traditionally expect that something bad has happened when they get a call from their children's school.
Wasko says the survey asks questions regarding customer service, program offerings, school safety and more.
"But we know that in terms of retaining the current students we still lose far too many each year, either who leave to other areas or other educational providers - the charter schools or school of choice," said Wasko.
The surveys are being distributed through paper copies, online, and by phone to get as many responses as possible.
