DPS Recalling 3,800 Teachers For Fall 2011

DETROIT (WWJ) - Some good news for Detroit Public School teachers:  About 3,800 teachers are being called back to work after receiving pink slips.

The notices will inform teachers to show up for work on Monday, August 29th. The first notices went out last Saturday and will continue to be mailed out this week. The first day of school is September 6th.

Along with nearly 4,000 teachers, an additional 1,200 employees like social workers and counselors also will be called back.

Enrollment is expected to be down about 6,000 students - DPS is predicting 67,000 students this fall.
