DPS Hosting All-Schools Open House
DETROIT (WWJ) - The doors will be open at more than 100 Detroit Public Schools this Saturday during the district's All-Schools Open House.
Each school will feature different stations and activities, but they will all have the same goal in mind: showing the community what's happening in the district while also encouraging parents to enroll their kids for the start of the upcoming fall school year.
DPS Spokesman Steve Wasko described the open house as a unique way for parents to see what the school district is all about. "It's just an opportunity on a Saturday when normally the schools would be dark, to light them up and to have them filled with a variety of activities," Wasko said.
Parents will also be allowed to meet the teachers and principals as part of the Open Enrollment Period, which runs through April 16th. Wasko believes this a vital part in determining where their child will attend school.
"No parent would make a choice for their child's education without having the chance to visit a school," said Wasko.
The All Schools Open House runs from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. March 31 with each site offering free meals and giveaways. A few select sites will also have immunizations and dental check-ups available for those who attend.
Free shuttle services will be running from six locations, including Osborn High School, Cody and Detroit International Academy on Woodward.
