DPD: All Hands On Deck For Detroit's Target Fireworks
DETROIT (WWJ) - With the fireworks set to light up the sky Monday night, Detroit Police are planning for the big event.
WWJ's City Beat Reporter Vickie Thomas spoke with Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee about plans to keep the event safe for attendees.
"We anticipate everybody having a great night," Godbee told Vickie. He says it'll pretty much be all hands on deck for Monday night's fireworks detail, telling Vickie that "leave days" have been restricted, so fireworks attendees will see a heavy police presence at all of the various viewing venues. And, Godbee says, beware, because you could be caught on candid camera.
"There are a lot of cameras in the downtown Detroit area," Godbee said. "We will be monitoring them actively ... you know, we'll have officers - some uniform, some not uniform - that will be doing some recognizance work for us, so we'll be looking for agitators in the crowd; people that may not understand that this is a family event. It's a family environment. We're gonna be fair, but very firm."
