Downriver School Bus Driver Loses Legs In Depot Accident
FLAT ROCK (WWJ/AP) - Police say a school bus driver lost both of her legs after she was pinned against a guardrail by another bus at a battery charging station in Flat Rock.
Police say the accident happened around 4:15 p.m. Thursday at the bus depot in the 28000 block of Division, just off Gibraltar Road.
According to police, the victim was helping another driver position her bus closer to the battery charging system when the bus suddenly accelerated out of control, went over the parking curb and pinned the victim to the guardrail.
The victim, identified as a woman in her 40s, was rushed to Oakwood Southshore Medical Center with "severe trauma" to her lower extremities. Police say she lost both legs below the knee.
No students were around when the accident happened, and no charges have been filed.
An investigation is ongoing.
