Downed Trees Over Tracks Halts Amtrak Train In Route To Detroit

BATTLE CREEK (WWJ) - Hundreds of passengers on board an Amtrak train headed from Chicago to metro Detroit made an unexpected stop in Battle Creek, thanks to the storms.

Tree branches fell on the tracks, and then the train lost power. One of those passengers is Pam Woodley, WWJ's former news director.

"A tornado went through Battle Creek and because there is no electricity the train can not go forward. And although we could be talked through the station verbally, there are trees on the tracks. So we can't move, we are stuck," says Woodley.

Woodley says all of the passengers on the train are just hoping to get home as soon as possible.

Amtrak has made arrangements for passengers to either bus into Battle Creek or folks can stay on the train, which will move backward to Kalamazoo, and bus from there to Detroit, Royal Oak or Pontiac.
