Double Lane Closure On I-96 Causes Multi-Mile Backup
LYON TWP. (WWJ) - Road construction that forces westbound I-96 down to one lane near Milford Road is causing a multi-mile backup.
WWJ's Mike Campbell reports traffic is lined up all the way to at least Beck Road, which is five miles away from the construction zone.
Only the right lane is open on westbound I-96 over Milford Road because of bridge work. As a result, delays of up to 20 minutes have been reported by WWJ traffic tipsters.
MDOT officials say the double lane closure is expected to continue through 1 p.m. Friday, followed by a single lane closure until 3 p.m.
As a detour, drivers can take Grand River Avenue. However, the Kent Lake Road entrance ramp to I-96 is also closed, so motorists should re-enter the freeway via the ramp at Kensington Lake Road.
