Doing Time Part 3: Cassie's Story

"Orange Is The New Black" is a hit Netflix series about women in prison. Some say it glorifies something that is actually a nightmare.

In this four-part series, WWJ's Jackie Paige talked with three women who served time … and they say there is nothing glamorous about doing time. Catch up on yesterday's story about Ivy HERE.

In part three, former inmate Cassie, a 30-year-old mother of two, claims -- like Ivy in part one -- that she was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"I was basically guilty by association," she told WWJ's Jackie Paige.

She was convicted of delivering and manufacturing cocaine, a charge that she says stems from being a passenger in a vehicle from which a boyfriend was watching out for drug deals.  Cassie claims she was wrongfully considered a drug lookout.

"I got four years in prison because I wouldn't testify (against the boyfriend)," she said.

The former boyfriend, father of one of her children, is now her fiancée and serving 18 years in prison for selling drugs.

"I never once sold drugs in my life," Cassie said, adding that her fiance never consumed the drugs he sold.

"He never even tried it," she said, telling Paige she and her co-convict were "blinded by greed."

After release from prison, Cassie says she started her life over and continues to stay on the straight and narrow while waiting for her fiance to be released from his stint behind bars.
