Does Santorum Drop-Out Mean Win For Romney?
LANSING (WWJ) - Bowing to the inevitable, Rick Santorum on Tuesday suspended his presidential campaign.
During February's Michigan Primary, Santorum garnered nearly 38 percent of the vote -- not enough to defeat front-runner, Michigan-native Mitt Romney.
Does this make the road to nomination much easier for Romney?
WWJ Newsradio 950 spoke with Michigan GOP spokesman Matt Frendeway.
"I think that President Obama's made the job pretty easy. His policy has been horrendous," Frendeway said. "It amounted to higher unemployment nationally and just a terrible amount of debt that's going to be put upon our future generations."
Bill Ballenger, editor of Inside Michigan Politics, said the numbers have just not been adding up for Santorum.
"He's good a good excuse because of his daughter's unfortunate illness. But I think that the numbers were probably most worrisome to him where the numbers right there on the ground in Pennsylvania, showing that he actually might lose to Mitt Romney in his home state of Pennsylvania," said Ballenger.
"That pretty much would have undone everything that he had accomplished with his campaign up until this point," he said.
Santorum, appearing with his wife and family in his home state of Pennsylvania, told supporters that despite his move, the fight to defeat President Barack Obama would go on. (More on this, here).
