Dodgers 4, Tigers 0
LOS ANGELES (WWJ/AP) - The Tigers had a chance to tie the Cleveland Indians for first place in the AL Central but a 4-0 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers prevented that move into first for the Tigers.
As heard on 97.1 The Ticket, the Dodgers scored in the first inning and that turned out to be all Los Angeles would need against the Tigers.
Brad Penny (5-6) gave up seven hits over six innings, struck out four and walked three. The two-time All-Star, who spent parts of five seasons with the Dodgers, is 1-3 with a 6.00 ERA over his last six starts after winning three straight.
Clayton Kershaw threw a two-hitter for his third career shutout and complete game, Juan Uribe homered, and the Los Angeles Dodgers resumed their interleague schedule with the victory over the Tigers.
It was the second straight shutout for the Dodgers, who beat Houston 1-0 on Sunday.
Kershaw (7-3) tied a season high with 11 strikeouts and walked one in his second shutout of the season. He allowed a leadoff double in the third by Ryan Raburn and a one-out single in the fourth by Casper Wells.
Stay with 97.1 The Ticket as the Tigers go up against the Los Angeles Dodgers for game two in the three game series Tuesday night.
