DMC Among 'Most Wired' Hospitals
By Edward Cardenas
DETROIT (CBS Detroit) -The Detroit Medical Center has been named as one of the "Most Wired" hospitals in the country, according to Health Care's Most Wired Survey by Hospitals & Health Networks.
The survey, which was conducted between Jan. 15 and March 15, asked hospitals and health systems nationwide to answer questions regarding their IT initiatives.
"DMC was among the first systems to adopt electronic medical records (EMR) in 2006, and we have achieved many new levels of connectivity since then, including electronic order entry and medication scanning to improve efficiency in patient care," said DMC Chief Information Officer Joe Francis in a release. "We are very proud to have received this award again for the eighth consecutive year."
To be considered as one of the "Most Wired," hospitals must meet a set of "rigorous" criteria across four operational categories, the DMC stated. This added connectivity has reduced medical errors by using bar code technology, and has created continual improvement by evaluating workflow processes and desired outcomes, the health system added.
