Divers Recover Body Of Missing Teen In Northern Michigan
LELAND (AP) - Divers have recovered the body of a 16-year-old boy who drowned while swimming at a beach in Michigan's northern Lower Peninsula.
Leelanau County Sheriff Lt. Clint Kerr confirmed the body had been located in the water, but declined further comment until he met with the unidentified boy's the family.
The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports the Lake Leelanau youth was swimming Thursday near shore at Van's Beach in Leland when he was swept away.
The Leelanau County sheriff's marine patrol, area fire department rescue teams and the U.S. Coast guard searched Thursday for the boy until it became too dark.
The search resumed Friday around the beach, located about 20 miles northwest of Traverse City. The boy's name wasn't immediately released.
