Displaced Detroit Students Begin At New School
DETROIT (WWJ) - Students from Detroit's Paul Robeson Academy, devastated by fire this week, were welcomed for the first time, Friday, at nearby Thurgood Marshall Academy.
They'll spend the last month of the school year there.
Nine-year-old Rachel Rudd was one of the students excited to start at a new school, telling WWJ Newsradio 950's Mike Campbell she hoped to make new friends a do pretty much "the same thing" she did at Paul Robeson.
Nine-year-old Ashton Burton said he was just happy to see that Thurgood Marshall also had a playground.
Assistant principal Teresa Rowland was outside, before class began, to say hello to the newcomers.
"We do this routine just every day. We say good morning to the student, each and every one of them, have a good day, every day," Rowland said.
Kindergarten and Pre-K kids are finishing the year at a separate building on the Robeson campus.
Meantime, the cause of the fire remains under investigation. - View photos of the fire -
