Did Mark Dantonio Take A Jab At Michigan/Ric Flair In Interview? [VIDEO]
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan State's subdued approach to signing day seemed appropriate for a program that has remained a bit under the radar despite two Big Ten championships in the past three seasons.
While rival Michigan introduced its class at a celebratory event in Ann Arbor — with Tom Brady and Derek Jeter in attendance — the Spartans held a regular news conference with coach Mark Dantonio quietly going through the list of recruits.
The recruiting rankings indicate this should be one of Dantonio's best classes at Michigan State. The Spartans landed Donnie Corley of Detroit's Martin Luther King High School, who was the AP Player of the Year for Division I-2 in Michigan. Dantonio said the 6-foot-3 Corley can play on both sides of the ball.
Other things to know:
Top 25 Class: Yes
Best in class: Donnie Corley, WR-CB, Detroit
Best of the rest: Josh King, DE, Darien, Ill.
Late addition: Luke Campbell, OL-DL, Lewis Center, Ohio
One that got away: Michael Jordan, OL, Canton, Mich., who signed with Ohio State.
How they'll fit in: The Spartans have to replace QB Connor Cook after last season's run to the national semifinals. Although Tyler O'Connor and Damion Terry have been with the program for a while, both are unproven. Michigan State added QB Messiah deWeaver of Huber Heights, Ohio, and Corley could provide immediate help to a receiving corps that loses Aaron Burbridge and Macgarrett Kings from last season's team.
