Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan football program made national headlines yesterday for their "Signing of the Stars" event.
According to 247sports.com, the Wolverines brought in the 5th best recruiting class of 2016, led by DT Rashan Gary from Paramus, NJ who's ranked the #1 player in the country.
Signing of the Stars took place at Hill Auditorium on the University of Michigan campus and featured celebrities such as Tom Brady, Derek Jeter and Ric Flair. It was truly an innovative, one of a kind recruiting event that created a lot of buzz, both positive and negative.
Some believe this event is cool and great publicity for the program. It also raised over $110,000 for the Chad Tough Foundation.
However, others look at the event with a shade of criticism. That it's simply a party Jim Harbaugh threw that was over-the-top.
According to the Baltimore Sun, one coach that kind of trolled Harbaugh and took a jab at his Signing of the Stars was Maryland head coach DJ Durkin, who served as Harbaugh's defensive coordinator last year at Michigan:
"I absolutely enjoy it, because there are a new group of guys we're excited about, who are joining our family," Durkin told the Baltimore Sun. "That's really exciting. But all the hoopla that's gone into it now? I think that's a lot of BS. When a guy signs, however he sends his letter, we're going to get on the phone and say we're so excited you're here. We talked to all those guys last night, too. … But we've got a lot of other things to do today."
Durkin's criticism did not seem limited to Harbaugh and Michigan, but it's certainly fair to say that Durkin wasn't too fond of Harbaugh's Signing Day special.
