DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - The Detroit Red Wings fall to the New Jersey Devils 2-1 on Thursday.
Tomas Holmstrom scored on a power play for the Wings' only goal of the game.
Tied at 1-1 going into the third period the Red Wings ran out of steam and were unable to overcome the 1 goal spread.
Alexei Ponikarovsky scored in the first period to put New Jersey on the board first and Petr Sykora scored the winning goal for the Devils.
Jimmy Howard had 19 saves for Detroit , Martin Brodeur had 23 saves for the New Jersey win.
