Detroit's New Whole Foods Looking For Local Vendors
DETROIT (WWJ) - In preparation for the Whole Foods opening in Detroit's Midtown, the store is hosting a local vendor fair at the end of this month.
Food artisans interested in getting their products on the store's shelves have until Sunday, Feb. 17, to turn in their applications.
"This is kind of a unique thing that we're starting to do for all of our new stores that we're opening," said Whole Foods Market Community Liaison Amanda Musilli. "We found this is a great way to get new products in right away instead of opening first and then looking for (local vendors) ... It's exciting for someone who is looking to grow their business and get their products in a retail setting."
Not all foods will be considered, however. The chain's website lists a number of "unacceptable ingredients" that include artificial colors and flavors, aspartame and high fructose corn syrup -- just to name a few. (Check out the rundown here).
The vendor fair is by invitation only, so applications must be received by the deadline in order to be eligible. (Get the details here).
Meantime, the new Whole Foods, located at Woodward and Mack, began its first series of job information sessions on Friday.
Employment opportunities will be posted online starting April 6.
Whole Foods is set to open its doors in the city in late May or early June.
